Awesome First Date Ideas That Don’t Involve Alcohol Or Coffee
Why does everyone seem to be stuck in a constant cycle of first dates involving coffee or alcohol these days?
‘Wanna grab a Coffee/Drink?’ seems to be the go to line for many people asking someone on a date.
Ok, so we get it. Alcohol relaxes situations, and coffee provides quite a non committal way of checking your date isn’t a serial killer dating.
But is it a date that is going to help you be remembered? If you are date number 3 that week, which one will stick in the memory:
- The date in the bar where the toilets smelt, the drinks were over priced, and a man with a urine stain on his trousers kept interrupting you both with a tale of how he fought a dragon bare handed last week. Ok… That MAY be memorable – but not for the right reasons.
- The surprise date where you do something new, slightly romantic (not too much, though, Cassonova… this is a first date… remember?), really fun, and side splittingly funny.
It’s a bit of an obvious answer, really, isn’t it?
So with that in mind… dig out your ‘Dummies guide to being brave’ book, and try and implement some of the following ideas when organising your next date.
Have Fun Outdoors
For the perversely minded of you, think again – we don’t mean THAT… at least not on the first date.
But, especially in nice weather, an outdoor date can be very relaxed and offer the perfect opportunity to get to know someone. And there is a dash of romance thrown in for good measure.
We are talking about country walks, hiking, cycling… or perhaps something more daring like rock climbing.
The mixture of exercise, fresh air and sunlight releases huge amount of feel good chemicals in your brain.
That feel good factor will carry over, and leave you both thinking about your date for days to come (so long as you didn’t tell them the ‘joke’ about how you tried to buy some camouflage trousers last week but couldn’t find any).
Be a Tourist For The Day
You may live in, or near a city which attracts millions of tourists every year. But how many of you can say you’ve experienced your city through the eyes of a tourist?
Dating is the perfect excuse to explore the cheesy, but fun things and places you wouldn’t normally do. It offers a great opportunity to break the ice and get to know each other in a relaxed and fun setting.
So check out the sights, the tourist attractions, or even take an open top bus ride.
Just make sure you do some slight planning beforehand. There is nothing sexy about standing on a street corner with a map in your hand looking lost!
Visit The Zoo
The Zoo is a great place to have a relaxed, fun date where you can wander around showing your worldly knowledge and get to know someone on a new level.
It is perhaps the best excuse to relive your childhood and show the fun side to you that adult life has kept locked away.
The best thing? You don’t have to work hard to make conversation. With thousands of animals to talk about, there are no awkward silences!
Warning: If you show off and stick your hands through fences despite the warning signs – the following trip to hospital to have your finger reattached may kill the mood.
Take a Dance Class
This is a daring one for many, but the potential is huge! It gives you a great chance to laugh, have fun, and get a little close (but keep your hands to yourself – this isn’t prom night!)
If you have two left feet, and have the finesse of a bull in a china shop – this option may be best avoided.
But just because you don’t have the moves like Jagger, that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t give it a go. It’s supposed to be fun, you’re not expected to recreate a famous scene from Dirty Dancing in your first go!
One tip: Pick a style of dancing which neither of you have done before. That way you are both in the same situation and can laugh together at how useless you are!
